About the Work
SHORT SUMMARY
A story that conveys the thrill and heartbreak of young love. We meet our two protagonists on their way to separate New Year’s Eve parties. They’re in different parts of the world. 10,9,8, 7… the New Year countdown starts at a nightclub and just as our female protagonist is about to send a WhatsApp message, the world literally stops.
We then take a deep dive into a dream-like journey full of memories and feelings – from the moment our protagonists met in the subway till the end of their relationship. Cut back to the present. The male protagonist receives a message, and the world finally spins again. Even if the clock strikes midnight, the year doesn’t start until you get the message you’ve been waiting for.
EDIT
The film is full of fleeting moments, which don’t follow a linear storyline. The editing is always dynamic and ever-changing. The viewer can relate to the love story and feels all the highs and lows although the exact story is never explicitly revealed.
The Editor masterfully wraps the story of an entire relationship into an emotional New Year’s Eve countdown. With a keen sense of the story’s rhythm, the Editor always finds the right shot - whether it’s a deep embrace here or the lapping spray of the ocean there, artfully weaving together the strands of the boy-meets-girl story, combining long shots with quick intercuts to create a hypnotic maelstrom. In the end, effortlessly tying the messaging service into the events, leaving us with the comforting feeling that no matter how difficult the times and how great our differences, connection is always possible.
