About the Work
The first Hellblade game has become an unforgettable experience for 5 million players around the world. Specialised media has catalogued it as ‘a masterclass of atmosphere, storytelling, and the marriage of mechanical and conceptual design’.
After giving birth to such an icon of the gaming industry, we had to prove to our audience that Hellblade 2 will keep the same standards of its predecessor. The main challenge was to demonstrate that a game that is still under production will end up with the same level of craft.
The copywriting is inspired by the story of the game, where Senua - young woman with a troubled life, exacerbated by severe psychosis – takes us through her personal journey. She is now taking us through a journey of painstaking production, including the analysis of Icelandic topography and recording its natural sounds from creepy caves. Her voice is teasing the audience about the upcoming game release by mixing fiction with reality.
The resulting video combines originally produced CGI abstracts, in-game and in-engine footage, motion graphics and behind-the-scenes footage. The original soundtrack was created by the experimental folk band Heilung and is based on texts and runic inscriptions from the Viking Age.
