About the Work
Being an ‘over-the-counter’ product, Difflam is best known as a serious treatment for severe sore throat issues. When in fact, whilst powerful, the product also provides relief to a range of common sore throat symptoms, from raw inflammation and painful throbbing to the simple scratchy throat we all know when we’re coming down with something. To drive brand awareness and product consideration we created a light-hearted set of characters that personify these symptoms.
The character design is intentionally tangible, a beautifully hand-crafted clay and 3D illustration, evoking the physical feelings of the sore throat symptoms they represented. With bucketloads of charm and a brutally simple approach, the creative helped warm up a usually frosty and grey time of year, diverting from a typically clinical style of pharma/health advertising.
The campaign ran across social, display, print and out-of-home locations where busy, wet, uncomfortable commuters might see it during the height of the winter cold and flu season.
