About the Work
Mexico is a country where violence has been normalized to the point where it is perceived as a natural phenomenon.
Nearly 200 homicides and homicides of girls and boys have been reported in January 2023 alone, with over 2,640 in 2022. That's an average of seven children and adolescents killed every day.
In 2019, there were 28,188 common crimes committed against children and adolescents (including corruption of minors, intentional injuries, trafficking of minors, homicide, and other crimes against children's integrity). Reports increased in subsequent years, with 27,798 crimes reported against children and adolescents in 2021 and 33,237 in 2022.
A total of 744 girls, boys, and adolescents were referred to the Attorney General for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (313 girls and 431 boys), while 30 people were referred to the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (1 woman, 12 girls, and 17 boys).
These numbers get worse every year.
The film shows the story of a town in Mexico where children are doing their normal activities. Suddenly, a storm begins to form, we can tell because of the thundering and the sky getting dark. They all run looking for shelter while it begins to rain. The sounds of the rain are not the usual ones, and the drops hit the ground with an astonishing force.
After a few seconds, we realize that the raindrops are not made of water, but lead. They are bullets.
Most of the kids get to safety. All but one girl that was running with her sister. A bullet hits her fatally.
The story ends explaining that in Mexico, violence has become a natural phenomenon, just like rain.
