About the Work
Brazil has the distinction of being the country with the highest number of murders of transgender women in the world. To avoid violence, transgender women often resort to hiding their genitals, minimizing their visibility to potential aggressors. However, due to their underemployment status, over 90% of these women lack access to safe methods of achieving these practices. As a result, they resort to daily use of tape and super-strong glue to hold their genitals in place, leading to kidney problems and long waiting lists for hemodialysis and kidney transplants, thereby creating a public health issue.
In collaboration with the transgender community and medical institutions, we developed the world's first funnel shaped lingerie to alleviate the adverse health effects from this practice. The climax of our campaign was the creation of a bill that would promote the distribution of this lingerie through the Unified Health System (SUS).
