About the Work

Zippo lighters have a huge fanbase with outdoor enthusiasts, campers and hikers. To engage with these nature lovers—and to remind them of the importance of always carrying a fire tool—we created Pyrotechnic Posters: a campaign that included an interactive art installation in the Zippo Museum in the mountains of rural Pennsylvania; wooden media kits with hand-burned lettering that held our posters; and unboxing poster kits that were sent to famous hikers and nature enthusiasts on TikTok.

Our Pyrotechnic Posters at the museum and inside the kits invited users to use a Zippo lighter to try to set the posters on fire—or at least, try to. When touched by the Zippo flame, a layer of black heat-sensitive ink revealed an ominous world of animals that lurk in the dark...thus reminding nature lovers of the importance of always carrying a Zippo.
