About the Work
Lifesaving Radio––the first AI radio station clinically designed to optimize surgical performance
Issue: Preventable surgical complications are the third leading cause of death worldwide. So, how can we help surgical teams focus to operate at peak precision?
Innovation: We started with a clinical study that showed hard rock music, namely AC/DC, improved surgical accuracy and efficiency––but not just any rock or AC/DC playlist works. That’s why we created AI Angus, the first AI DJ specifically trained to optimize surgical performance. Using the metrics of the music from the study, including BPM, key, camelot, loudness, energy, valence, speechiness, popularity, and duration, we analyzed millions of songs to identify the music clinically suited for peak surgical performance. And since surgical teams with higher morale make fewer mistakes, we personalized the content based on team, surgery type, and length.
Lifesaving Radio launched at NextMed Health’s medical innovators congress with surgical demos, world tour rock scrubs, and Highway to Heal, an album of 11 reimagined AC/DC songs, each telling a different surgical story––and we even made limited edition scrub-colored vinyl.
Results:
5,887 surgeons subscribed
20+ countries listened
29,435 AI radio hours streamed
41% more efficient surgeries
5% higher accuracy
1 billion earned impressions
“Improving surgical performance can help save millions of lives and billions in healthcare costs”
