About the Work
In 2023, we launched the Working with Cancer Pledge, a first-of-its-kind, cross-industry initiative to erase the stigma of cancer at work and create positive impact on the lives of cancer patients in the workplace. The initiative challenged the global business community to commit to creating more supportive work cultures for patients and caregivers. Our inspiration came from our global CEO’s experience living and working with the disease after his diagnosis in 2022. During that time, he received thousands of messages of support and learned firsthand that cancer patients not only fear for their lives but are scared to share their diagnosis at work and feel they have little to no support in the workplace. We learned that even though most patients feel support at work positively impacts their health, a staggering 50% are afraid to tell their employers about their diagnosis. Shining a light on this sobering statistic, Working with Cancer aimed to not only raise awareness about the struggles patients experience at work but create tangible, positive change in corporate culture.
