About the Work
Cultural background:
Worldwide, there are 70 million people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A collective that experiences panic attacks and anxiety crises due to hyper- and hypoacusis (sensitivity to everyday sounds such as barking, sirens, construction sites...)
Only in Spain there are 450K ASD people. Therefore as one of the noisiest and most sociable countries in the world, is a great solution for a normally forgotten audience beyond the regular noise cancellation that isolates them.
Placement of the work:
Unfear was released to the media in late March, ready for International Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd. Launching it on this date helped us to highlight their needs in front of everyone.
We got over 100 local and international media covering Unfear, a tool that provides greater emotional well-being and a better quality of life for ASD people..
Purpose:
Use an existing Samsung technology to help a collective in need, in this case: the Galaxy Buds2 Pro earphones. Through this wearable device we created an A.I. app that suppresses certain noises and improves the quality of life of ASD people. With Unfear, we transform actual Samsung devices into an effective and free tool that gives a new audio experience and interaction with the world to the autistic community.
Idea’s extension:
In addition Unfear is expanding outside Europe and offers the app in several languages. Moreover, a 2nd app, Unnoise, was launched at the end of 2023, designed to help people with hearing sensitivity in everyday noisy situations such as sporting events or concerts
