Background
Historically, mining has been associated with multiple health hazards, with debilitating physical conditions. While mines are becoming safer from a physical health perspective, the emotional and mental well being of the miner is still overlooked. This is amplified by the extreme isolation they face, unable to even make a simple call to their worried families.
Brief - To build on our global legacy of purposeful innovations that transform the way people discover, share and connect with the world around them. And use it in a way that shows our commitment to the unique needs of the Indian consumer in a marketplace dominated by Korean and Chinese players.

1) The innovation should have real impact – transformational, not incremental
2) Easily replicable to achieve the scale that India needs
3) Empower consumers to share, connect, and support each other, reflecting Motorola's vision of transforming lives through connectivity

Creative Idea
More than 330K miners work in darkness for 10 hours a day, completely disconnected from their families. This isolation is detrimental to their mental health.
Motorola created DeepConnect so that a simple check-in call didn't have to be a luxury anymore.
A custom module was created from scratch by the agency’s Innovation Lab using off-the-shelf components. It assigns miners a unique frequency-based ID on their shared walkie-talkie and seamlessly connects to the smartphone at home, allowing both incoming & outgoing calls.
DeepConnect is:
Scalable: It's an affordable, scalable and easy-to-install tech solution that taps into the mine's existing communication system. It’s easy to maintain, making it within reach of the smallest coal mines.
Deliver Industry Impact: By addressing miners' mental well-being, the initiative cultivates a safer, more productive work environment. Its success paves the way for similar technological interventions in other industries, inspiring transformative change on a broader scale.
