A Sun is a Taiwanese film about a family that is torn apart by tragedies and brought together by their familial bonds. Our sequence represents the family coming together through the process of a string growing and weaving into a Chinese endless knot. In the early stages of concept development we were challenged with finding a visual representation of life. We had become too caught up in trying to retell the whole film through individual character studies. After stepping back and re-immersing ourselves in the story, we realized that the essence of the film is not of the individuals but the connections between them. Hence the idea centered around the formation of a Chinese endless knot was born.
