Indigenous mountain knives Culture and Creative Design

Shandao (mountain knives) is the technique from which indigenous Taiwanese derive life and pass down the land, emblematic of activity, existence, and being. This design focuses on the study of Shandao culture, demonstrating the aesthetic culture of Shandao via creative publishing along with binding and layout design. In addition, it transforms Shandao tool functions and cultural ceremony into a ‘letter-opening set’ design, blending the cultural stories, colors, and environmental imagery of each tribe, interpreting distinct communities’ use of Shandao as a tool for transmitting religious beliefs and protocols.
