PKX: Dynamic Mark is a logo and identity design project based on the IATA code of Beijing Daxing Airport (PKX), which aims to explore the potentials of mark making in visual identity systems. By situating this practice within the context of universalism in public spaces, the PKX logo challenges the homogeneous visuality of our modern time, providing cultural and visual sensitivities in a disoriented space.
Through designing a dynamic mark for PKX, I learned to achieve balance between different design disciplines. With a visual inspiration that seems conceptually complex or visual experimental, like Zaha Hadid’s architectural design for PKX, it is helpful to adopt abstraction as a method to simplify the concepts and build upon it to expand the visuality into other design disciplines, thus creating coherence and flexibility in a system.
