Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases globally that impacts over 50 million people. Epileptic seizures cause loss of consciousness, often making people fall and resulting in 22% of brain damage. Although the existing medical devices help with preventing head hitting, they certainly don’t help with feeling normal, as they make the illness part of your image.

As a company dedicated to making people feel safe, Volvo wants to make its technologies available for everyone who can benefit from it. So we present AirBacked — a protective accessory collection with hidden airbags for people living with epilepsy.

Each device utilises Volvo’s pioneering sensitive airbag technology to make sure no one hits their head during a seizure. The accessory, made of upcycled old Volvo airbags to limit the impact on the planet, opens up to prevent brain injury once the sensor detects a fall. But most importantly, the collection removes the stress of being looked at, making people wear their protection with pride.

With AirBacked, we repurpose Volvo’s world-known innovations to help people with epilepsy enjoy their lives to the fullest.
