Artifacts tell stories of their origin's art and culture. But these treasures have been looted and never returned, casting a shadow over their historical significance. The global demand for their return highlights the societal concern over these looted artifacts. To tackle this, Google Arts & Culture has collaborated with UNESCO. Google Arts & Culture's extensive data and UNESCO's international influence are combined in this endeavor. The aim is to raise awareness of the looted artifacts issue and provide a proactive platform for its resolution.
Google Arts & Culture, your handheld museum, lets you explore collections from 2000+ global museums online. Now, we propose a new initiative, 'Lost & Found'. This bold move unveils the looted artifacts that Google Arts & Culture’s global museum partners have been hiding. 'Lost & Found' is a platform for people to find lost cultural heritage, appreciate it beyond borders, and rally societal attention for its return.'Lost & Found' is designed to function like a real museum's lost and found section.
Users can search for a country, view a map of its looted artifacts categorized by museum, and uncover hidden historical facts. Users are also encouraged to join a petition demanding the return of these artifacts, which will be forwarded to the relevant museums and parliaments. To further raise awareness, we run billboards too. All these steps are done with UNESCO, ensuring credibility and objectivity.
