The Young Ones competition is one of the most acclaimed advertising, interactive and design student competitions. It has a tradition of excellence dating back to 1986.
The goal of this project was to find a digital coincidence that ties in with a brands mission. National Geographic is known for their wildlife/scenic photography and their forward thinking about the environment. Using the the technology behind smart TV's standby modes, I was able to show the connection between the brand and the use of the technology. I did this by hijacking the smart TV's standby mode, while it usually display beautiful wildlife/scenic images. In this case, the TV's would display a National Geographic image. This image would change overtime and grow worse the longer the TV is in standby. This would be a simple change that may not be noticed at first glance but when seen, sparks a conversation about the safety of our planet.
