"Memory Mate" is a photo-based conversational AI that helps seniors with dementia recall autobiographical memories.
The content utilized in existing dementia rehabilitation training is composed of objective content, which hinders the immersion of the elderly with dementia. To compensate for this situation, Memory Mate proposes an autobiographical memory recall therapy that actively introduces personal memories to make therapy more immersive.
When a senior with dementia watches TV excessively long, Memory Mate converts the TV screen into a Google photo slide show to start a personalized conversation using information such as the person, place, and date recognized in the photo. The personalized conversation gets more sophisticated over time based on the previous conversations. These conversations extend offline by calling family and friends recognized in the photos. Memory Mate will then send the senior's family a Monthly Cognitive Status Report on the senior's language and cognitive abilities based on the conversation results.
Memory Mate provides a great opportunity for seniors with dementia by transforming the time spent passively consuming media into an active conversation. Furthermore, it will reduce the burden of family caregiving by performing conversations with time and physical limitations on behalf of the family.
