“Consent, Or Lack Thereof” is a two-part interactive installation piece that acts to inform the viewer about statistics on both consent and sexual assault. This artwork was created for a physical gallery environment and what has been provided here acts as a digital summary of the experience. Part one of this project is a typographic poster handmade of yarn; this poster represents consent. Part two of this project is a typographic poster handmade out of glass; this poster represents a lack of consent. Both of these posters feature shapes and elements that act as data visualization according to either numerical count or measurements. The viewer is guided through these data points and shown their location in-depth by the accompanying guidebooks that sit alongside the display. Most importantly, as the viewers read through the book and are informed about the topic of consent, they are also being asked to participate in a scenario of consent themselves. You are free to touch the yarn poster. Really, it says it’s okay. You cannot, however, under any circumstances, touch the glass poster. It says not to.
