The Department of Motion Design at Ringling College hosts an annual weeklong conference that brings together industry professionals, alumni, and top studios from around the world to share insights with students. In an industry already overflowing with stunning and innovative work, crafting an opener for the event that could stand alongside the talent of our guests was no small challenge.

This year’s opener exploded onto the scene—literally. Centered around BOOM—Breaking Out Ordinary Minds, it embodied what motion designers do best: breaking convention, taking risks, and embracing the beautifully weird. Inspired by historical misconceptions, nature’s chaotic growth, and even motion design inside jokes, we built an eruptive series of explosive 3D visuals and real-world destruction—smashing plates, shattering glass, and making a mess in the name of creativity.

Fueled by the phrase "Without Destruction, There is No Creation," we pushed bold, dynamic typography to its limits, letting it collide with the energy of our footage. The result? A visceral, high-impact opener that reminded us why we do what we do—to challenge, to experiment, to disrupt. And, of course, to leave fellow motion designers thinking, "What the heck did I just watch?"
