Dissonance is an experimentally driven study of the art of aesthetics visualized through algorithmic design and photorealistic renders. The aim of the film was to develop a visual language that I believed represented my fascination with light, color, and the absence of both, motion as a calculated flow through different states in form, and contradictions between the expectations of shapes with their respective behaviors. In addition to the conceptual incentives, Dissonance also acted as an opportunity to craft a technical foundation in tools and practices relevant to industry collaborations.

Dissonance was animated in Houdini and rendered in Redshift and OpenGL. I used Nuke for compositing, Davinci Resolve for editing and color grading, and After Effects for credits and motion graphics. In addition to these primary software, I used Speedtree for vegetation, Substance Painter for a few texturing cases, and TouchDesigner for research and testing. My assets came from Quixel Megascans, TurboSquid, Poliigon, and Greyscale Gorilla.
