What if the blind could experience typography the way we do?
Typography is an essential part of our lives, shaping the way we interact with the world. However, for the visually impaired, accessing and understanding typography can be a significant challenge.
Our idea uses an Artificial Intelligence model to identify distinct features of a font that gives it character. Then we use these features to aggregate the tone of voice, creating distinct voice models for every Google font. Instead of relying solely on tactile or braille systems, those with visual impairment could use their sense of hearing to explore and understand typography. This technology would open up new avenues for artistic expression, communication, and access to information for people with visual impairments.
This idea has the potential to transform the design industry itself. We cannot change the world without first changing ourselves. By putting inclusivity at the forefront of design, Talking Typefaces is a step in that direction.
