‘MAYDAY’ as a branded film encapsulates the same core values Subway has stood for—boldness, affordability, and uniqueness—while transitioning into a new market as a late-night sweet destination. With Subway’s consistent connection to sources such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, we aim to take that well-received trope and interpret it literally. We continued to expand on that idea by bringing in the childlike goofiness and imagination of Gen Z. This works to help cement Subway as a premiere destination for the food you crave no matter the time of day.
‘MAYDAY” tells the bold story of a team of astronauts working to avoid space debris, only to realize they are being struck by giant chocolate chips. Suddenly, their ship is eclipsed by an enormous foot-long cookie. Drawn to explore, they land on the cookie—mimicking the iconic moon landing—and plant a Subway flag. The scene then cuts away to a group of friends imagining this scenario while simultaneously enjoying their late-night bite. Ultimately, this showcases the deep connection Subway has maintained with its customers for years and how that brand can stay strong as a new generation of consumers comes to their stores.
