Imagine arriving in a new country, a new school, and a new classroom unable to communicate. You’re eager to learn but suddenly find yourself caught between two languages.

Double-limited bilingualism affects nearly 15% of immigrant children. A stage where they don’t have enough vocabulary in either language to understand lessons or express themselves.

When you can’t find the words, it’s easy to fall behind.

So we asked: What if support didn’t feel like technology? What if it looked like a friend?

Introducing Google Pixie, a multimodal AI companion disguised as a plush. Pixie doesn’t just translate words. It translates the experience of learning to help students find their voice. Pixie uses Live-Scene Synthesis to follow along with the lesson. When a child feels stuck, they can squeeze Pixie to quietly signal the teacher without drawing attention. If a word, phrase, or slang doesn’t make sense, Pixie clarifies it instantly, helping students move from silence to participation.

Back home, Pixie becomes a tutor for the whole household, helping parents and children navigate lessons together and stay involved in the learning journey.

From one classroom to a global movement, we taught the world an invaluable lesson: In order to truly transform learning, sometimes all you need is a friend.
