Every year, around 300,000 people lose their lives in maritime accidents worldwide. Among them, accidents that occur at night are far more dangerous than those during the day, with a fatality rate over three times higher. At night, the ocean becomes almost completely invisible.According to marine search studies, the detection range of drones and helicopters drops by more than 60% in darkness. Even with search lights, rescuers can only see what is directly in front of them. Meanwhile, the golden time after falling into the sea is limited to about four hours based on average sea temperatures, and when visibility is lost, this survival window becomes drastically shorter. In the night sea, survival depends on how fast someone can be found.
Neon Path is a life jacket designed to increase visibility when it matters most. When a person becomes stranded at sea at night, they pull a string on the life jacket, opening a compartment at the bottom that releases a floating fluorescent material onto the water. The material glows for up to 12 hours, drifting with ocean currents. As the person moves, it leaves behind a clear glowing trail that shows not just a point, but a path. This path helps rescue teams quickly understand the person’s movement and locate them faster, without relying solely on estimated drift calculations. On an invisible sea, Neon Path draws a visible route to survival.
