Ryan Hellyer Williamson is an Australian type designer, born in Japan and now based in Edinburgh, UK. He first discovered letters through some legally questionable late-night antics on walls and train lines throughout Sydney. After reforming his ways, he earned a BA in Design from the University of New South Wales, Sydney. While there, he headed the letterpress production team at The Distillery.
After moving to the UK, he completed an MA in Type Design at the University of Reading. He now leads the type design team for both custom and retail projects at F37 Foundry, a multi-award-winning type foundry based in Manchester. Ryan works across a wide range of projects, from technology-breaking experimental work in F37’s Playground library to brand-defining multi-script custom projects.
Ryan has led type design projects for worldwide brands such as Chelsea FC, MotoGP, Electronic Arts, Co-op, Nakheel, and more. He has received awards for both his Latin and Arabic type design.
