Professor Lawrence Zeegen is Dean of the School of Design at Ravensbourne where he leads undergraduate and postgraduate courses and research in Advertising, Communication Design, Product Design, Architecture and Interior Design and Fashion Design.

Lawrence has lectured at conferences and institutions and acted as a design education consultant nationally and internationally in over 25 countries.

Having practiced as an illustrator and designer since graduation with BA (Hons) in Graphic Arts from Camberwell College of Arts in 1986 and MA Illustration from the Royal College of Art in 1989; Lawrence's clients include major international newspapers, magazines, book publishers, design companies and advertising agencies. Lawrence was a regular contributing illustrator for The Guardian newspaper between 2005 and 2010.

Lawrence was a founding partner of London-based illustration studio Big Orange, was a founding director of Heart – one of the UK's foremost contemporary illustration agencies, then launching AgencyRush before departing to take a more active role in design education.

As a design writer, Lawrence has contributed to numerous publications and blogs including Computer Arts, Computer Arts Projects, Creative Review, Digital Creative Arts, Grafik, It's Nice That, MacFormat and Varoom. The author of nine published books on the subject of illustration and graphic arts since 2005 and a contributor to many more, Zeegen's latest books, Fifty Years of Illustration (Laurence King) was published in 2014 and Ladybird by Design (Penguin) in 2015.

Lawrence is a trustee of the De Le Warr Pavilion and for the Creative Conscience Awards, is a member of the Design Council Sounding Board. Lawrence has twice served on the Executive Board of ico-D (icograda) - the International Council of Design and on the Board of Trustees for D&AD. He has been a jury member on numerous international awards including the Adobe Awards and Art Directors Club Europe.
