HANDS ON: Lettering & Mural Design with Gemma O’Brien
Saturday, November 17, 2018
9:30 AM–12:30 PM/ 2:00–5:00 PM
The One Club For Creativity is pleased to announce the return of ADC Hands On, a series of workshops where attendees work alongside renowned creative professionals. Designed to get creatives actually creating instead of simply being lectured to, every Hands On workshop is small enough for everyone involved to walk away with new skills, new insights and new friends.
Join us on Saturday, November 17, as we welcome world-renowned Australian designer and Young Guns 13 winner Gemma O’Brien for two three-hour workshops designed to teach participants lettering skills and techniques for large-scale murals.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The first part of the class will focus on two methods of letter creation: drawing and writing. Gemma will share a variety of methods used in her practice to create bold and dynamic designs. Participants will explore expressive script with brush pens, blackletter with balsa and ink, and a series of illustrative lettering exercises.
The second part of the class will focus on taking a design from the page to the wall. Using creations from the first half of the class, participants will be taught how to rework and resize their drawings for a large-scale space and other tips and tricks to consider when painting a mural (setup, measurements, paint and brush selection).
WHAT TO BRING
Please bring a sketch pad, 2B pencil, black fineliner Sharpie, black Tombow Brush Pen, ruler, eraser and sharpener. All additional materials will be provided.
9:30 AM–12:30 PM: Morning Workshop
2:00–5:00 PM: Afternoon Workshop
The morning and afternoon workshops are identical, and are deliberately kept small to ensure that Gemma has time work with all participants.
