Partnership with the NRDC Reveals the Future of Green Advertising

NEW YORK, NY (May 10, 2007)— The 2007 One Show College Competition, the premiere international student awards competition in advertising and design, announced the winners of the coveted Gold, Silver and Bronze Pencils earlier this evening, May 10th at New York’s Prince George Ballroom. The student awards, produced by the non-profit organization The One Club, awarded twelve Pencils, judged by the same elite international jury of art directors, copywriters and creative directors who judge the One Show, One Show Design and One Show Interactive.

This year, nearly a thousand students from 106 colleges and universities in 16 countries competed to create advertisements in five categories for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) on issues ranging from global warming and clean energy to toxic chemicals and human health. "Many students who have entered and won One Show Pencils have gone on to incredible careers in the industry," said Mary Warlick, Chief Executive Officer of The One Club. "The One Club believes that strong messages can become catalysts for understanding larger problems. We offer students from around the globe the opportunity to profoundly affect the physical world that brings us together: The Environment."

An unprecedented number of entries in the Innovative Marketing category produced three Pencils and as many new ways to capture the public’s attention. A Gold Pencil
Other highlights of the show include a Silver Pencil awarded in the Television category to art directors Neal Desai and Aaron Sanchez and writers Brian Jones and Joe Nafziger of The Bookshop in Culver City, California for "Intoxicating Love," a spot about ocean contamination featuring two lovers in toxic waste-suits frolicking on a beach.

In the Print category, a Gold Pencil was awarded to art directors Jeremy Diessner and Eric Deichl and writer Kent Koren of the Miami Ad School in Miami Beach, Florida for a campaign reminding consumers that you don’t have to be on the front lines to make a difference because "a signature is powerful."

The One Show College Competition is part of the larger One Show Festival which kicked off on Tuesday, May 8 with the 13th Annual Student Exhibition showcasing the best work from graduating seniors from around the world.
