Atlanta schools shine in annual student ad contest

New York, NY ? May 14, 2004 ? Gold Pencils were presented to students from Atlanta?s Portfolio Center and Creative Circus as part of the One Show?s College Competition, which was held during the One Show presentation at the Winter Garden of the World Financial Center in downtown Manhattan this evening.

The College Competition is an important part of the annual One Show Festival week events, which kicks off with an exhibition of outstanding student work from ad schools around the world. Career development of advertising professionals, which includes a ro-bust educational component, is a key part of the One Club?s mission.

Cash prizes were awarded to winners of the One Show College Competition. In addition, the One Show announced the winner of this year?s Patrick Kelly Scholarship, named after the legendary Ally & Gargano copywriter who launched Federal Express with a bevy of now-classic TV ads. Mr. Kelly was posthumously inducted into the One Club?s Creative Hall of Fame earlier this year.

The College Competition attracted 563 entries from ad students in the U.S., Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Canada and The Netherlands. Each student was given the brief of promoting the value of advertising to brands and consumers. The following students took home College Competition Pencils for advertising:

The following students won College Competition Pencils for design: Gold: Denison Kusano, Mara White, The Creative Circus/Atlanta Silver: Megan Volz, Fashion Institute of Technology, New York and Marc Choi, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, PA Bronze: Luis Erazo, Keith Rios, Chad Lynch, The Creative Circus/Atlanta

In addition to receiving Gold, Silver or Bronze Pencils, winners of the competition also received cash prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000, respectively. The winning campaign was chosen by the One Show jury during its judging sessions in New York last March.

The Patrick Kelly Scholarship is awarded annually to a student who shows promise in either copywriting or art direction, based on a campaign of ads, two essay questions and letters of recommendation. It is presented and sponsored by Euro RSCG MVBMS Part-ners. This year?s scholarship, which includes a cash prize of $2,000, was presented to Chad E. Lynch of The Creative Circus in Atlanta.

According to Mary Warlick, executive director of The One Club, which sponsors the One Show competitions, ?One Club members and the creative community at tonight?s show remember what it was like to be starting out in the world of advertising, and especially the thrill of winning a creative award. Therefore, we?re all proud to share in the excitement of our college competition winners.?
