NEW YORK, NY (May 18, 2006) - The One Show Education Festival, the biggest event of its kind in the world, concludes tonight with a party honoring the 2006 College Competition Pencil Winners-the best and brightest advertising students in the world.

This year's festival had a record 948 entries-up significantly from last year's 743. Advertising students from as far as Sweden, Singapore and Spain entered the competition hoping for gold. Miami Ad School was the big winner of the night with a total of four Pencils, including two Gold and two Silver. The school's own Jenny Liu was also named recipient of the esteemed Patrick Kelly Scholarship, a $2,000 prize awarded to a student of advertising based on the merits of his or her portfolio, essays and recommendations. Coming in second was New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, which earned two Pencils-one Gold and one Silver.

The winners of the College Competition will be announced at the party, held at the Helen Mills Theater in New York City. This year's participants were tasked with creating a campaign for the promotion of fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles. The contest is judged by the same jury as the One Show, the world's most prestigious creative advertising award show.

The three-day One Show Education Festival, produced by The One Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting creative excellence in advertising, was held May 16-18. The festival kicked off with the opening of an exhibition of selected works by graduating seniors from 21 schools. A portfolio ran over the next two days, giving more than 150 students the opportunity to receive extensive advice on their 'books' from top creative and design directors from around the country. On the second day, 10 teams of students, chosen from a pool of 20 applicants, faced off for a Client Pitch Competition, with the winners taking home a scholarship.

Since assuming the role of Executive Director of The One Club in 1989, one of Mary Warlick's major initiatives has been the creation of The One Club's Education Department. Maiko Shiratori, The One Club's Education Director, has significantly expanded the program, increasing the number of participating schools and students. "The growth of The One Club's education effort reflects the increasing professionalism of advertising education," said Warlick.
