Presenting the class of ADC Young Guns 23
After several rounds of judging that culminated in hours of deep discussion, the winners of Young Guns 23 have finally been revealed! And to absolutely nobody’s surprise, it’s another outstanding class of phenomenally talented individuals and teams across a wide variety of creative disciplines. This year, we are thrilled to welcome 33 winners into the Young Guns family!
Ahead of the YG23 Ceremony + Party, taking place at Manhattan’s Sony Hall on Wednesday, January 28 — you’ve already snagged your tickets, haven’t you? — we’ve captured a few thoughts from all of this year’s winners.

How did Young Guns get on your radar?
I’ve been following Young Guns since I saw this super talented director from Montreal won it — I think it was about two years ago. I remember being so impressed by all the talent that Young Guns attracts. I never imagined I’d end up among them.
How did you end up in the creative field?
With both of my parents being artists, it felt natural to pursue a creative path. I explored the audiovisual field in college, but becoming a colorist ended up being a bit of a lucky coincidence.
One day it just clicked — it’s the perfect balance between technicality and creativity. A good part of my journey has been self-taught, but being surrounded by creatives who are just as passionate as I am has definitely helped along the way.

Why did you decide to enter this year?
I entered this year pretty last minute and honestly a bit on a whim. I just thought, why not give it a shot and see what happens? Hey, if you never try, you never know.
You only get to submit six projects. How did you decide what made the cut?
I think I changed projects at least three times before submitting. I wanted to include as much variety as possible so the jury could really see the range of my work.
In the end, I chose six projects that I felt demonstrated a diverse approach, covering different types of work and showcasing how I handle various mediums and formats. Describing, writing, and having introspection about past projects has been a good exercise for me to really dial back and shapeshift my perspective.
What was your reaction when you found out you won?
The news came through right at the end of a client session. My phone lit up, and I only caught the first line, but it was enough to know what it meant.
I surprised myself by how composed I managed to stay for the end of the session. I’m pretty sure the director I was with noticed a subtle shift in my tone and mood, haha. When the session wrapped up, I caught up with the news and everything felt a little surreal.
In what ways does where you’re living right now inspire your creativity?
Montreal is truly a wonderful place, but I think we live in a world where anything — as mundane or as grand — can spark inspiration. I think the key is simply being aware of it.
I find myself inspired when I run, when I walk my dog, when I’m with friends, and often right when I’m about to fall asleep (any insomniacs here?).
Our industry is constantly evolving with new technologies and new ways of doing things, and I think the most important part is staying curious and not getting too comfortable in how we work.
I’m also really inspired by all the women in the creative field who are making things happen and carving out their own paths, especially in post-production, where women are still a minority.
“The most important part is staying curious and not getting too comfortable in how we work.”
Now that you’re part of the Young Guns community, are there any past winners you admire?

If you could create a new Young Guns tradition, what would it be — and why?

Name a dream project you’d love to do next. Who would you want to collaborate with?
Dream collaborations for me would be with brands like Apple or Adidas, or exploring the world of luxury fashion. I also really enjoy music videos, and a dream of mine would be to grade a video for an artist whose music has inspired and fueled many of my color sessions.
