About the Work

The Tokyo Pen Pixel installation—a neon mural of the Tokyo skyline—was created using 37,968 multicolored MUJI pens and projection mapping. The colorful, light-filled display at MUJI’s flagship Paris store was a “unique Christmas gift” to Tokyo’s sister city and celebrated the similarities between the two cities’ major landmarks, the Tokyo Tower and the Eiffel Tower. Afterward, the pens were given to customers. The installation was created in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in a bid to promote the city as a travel destination.
