About the Work

For its annual Great Performers issue, the magazine enlisted 10 of the year’s best actors to star in a series of short horror films. Directed by the photographer/filmmaker Floria Sigismondi, the films place each actor into a classic horror trope. Saoirse Ronan, star of “Lady Bird,” plays a mannequin come to life; Timothée Chalamet, star of “Call Me by Your Name,” portrays a cannibal butler; Andy Serkis (“War for the Planet of the Apes”) becomes a demented clown, while Nicole Kidman (“The Beguiled”) smashes eggs as a possessed housewife. In its prodigious star power and stylish cinematography, “Horror Show” pushes the boundaries of how ambitious a magazine video project can be. Shot over five days on location in a dilapidated house in Los Angeles, the 10 videos elicited powerful original performances that demonstrate, more than any interview ever could, the remarkable and raw talent of some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
