About the Work

We created DustSee to raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution in Seoul. DustSee is an AR fine dust and air pollution app that shows the harmful particles we can’t see. More importantly, it tells people when they need to wear a mask. It visualizes the air pollution wherever the user is. It uses live-sensing to calculate current location, real-time air pollution levels, wind direction and speed showing the fine dust and air pollution. The interactive AR visualizes each pollutant with informative and engaging animations displaying the types and the amount. Each type had their own unique shape and animation as the current pollution levels determine the color motif of the AR filter in order to show the severity of the pollution. It also allows people to capture photos and videos of the animated air particles, which can be shared on social media.
