About the Work
Oscillation is a temporary interactive installation that uses sight, sound, and movement to spark community activity and social interaction. The piece was designed to show how play is important to the development of our urban infrastructure. It was placed on a pedestrian bridge that served as a main arty through the city, but the bridge was simply a pass through where people were preoccupied by their phones or their next destination. Our mission with the work was to get these people to stop for even a moment and engage with not only the installation but each other. As one walked up to these crystal like elements emerging from the bridge they begin to realize they are manipulating the sounds that are resonating from the pieces through their movements. Each crystal is a different instrument and this playful gesture begins to encourage people to play and engage with a complete stranger.
