About the Work

The brief was simple and incredible: make a version of our Game of Thrones main title out of Oreos! More specifically, it was important to design a world out of Oreos first, and add elements of our GOT main title into that. We wanted to give this spot it’s own personality and look, not just take some cookies and put them into our existing work. One challenge that we ran across early on was scale. We wanted to highlight the cookies as much as possible, so that meant making sure that the cookies weren’t too small in each location. We redesigned Castle Black along the way because we felt the cookies didn’t read and the scale seemed off. In the end, I think we found a nice balance between reading the Oreo’s, and providing enough form for the locations to be recognizable. We also spent time trying to find the right look for the cream. We wanted to make sure it felt like it was spread on, so that meant seeing the clumps of cream at the end of a stroke, and seeing individual strokes overlap each other.
