About the Work
#Romanovs100 combines the visual language of photography with AR tech to create an interactive history book featuring a personal image-based story of Russia’s last Royal family. #Romanovs100 album is a mixed reality edition which turns printed still images alive via AR app with 3D models, VR animations, interactive galleries, videos rolling inside photos. The purpose of AR is to extend the storytelling through limitations implied by print, and to allow readers become active co-creators of the unfolding story. The app provides an immersive journey into history triggering multiple interactions. Extended reality is a legitimate tool without which the storytelling wrould lack breadth and depth. Through mixing AR with actual photos, the book breaks traditional print format boundaries to create a new kind of history text that is informative, engaging and interactive — designed to educate and inspire future self-learners. The AR photo album premiered in Austin, Texas during the major education & innovation forum SXSW EDU 2019. The response from educators, cultural institutions, researchers, students is overwhelming. Book copies are being delivered to public libraries, universities, schools and many other educational secondary institutions who show interest to use the book inside and outside the classroom.
