About the Work

In 2019, Grammy-award winning artist Bon Iver released his new album titled “i,i”, born from a spirit of collective creativity. Inspired by this, Spotify created a unique interactive experience called “The Viisualiizer,” made entirely out of the letter “i”. The experience uses data to show how the album is listened to around the world, showcasing the collective streams, trending countries, and lyrics from the most beloved song that day. To do this, we created a purpose-built engine that allowed us to take any image or video and instantly transform it into i’s. Users immersed themselves in “The Visualizer”, each experiencing it in their own way on screens big and small, including a billboard in Times Square. The experience lives on as the album’s collaborative spirit grows, one i at a time.
