About the Work
Catalyst—a global non-profit with a mission to make workplaces that work for women—research shows unconscious gender bias is one of the biggest invisible barriers for women in the workplace. These biases are so ingrained in society that even the most progressive among us is guilty of perpetuating them — they’re almost automatic. The only way to change this is to teach people how to spot their own biases so they can consciously work against them. So we created a tool to help speed up the teaching process: The #BiasCorrect Plug-In. Like spell check but for gender bias. It flags bias words to the user during work-based chat conversations where these biases often show up and offers up a bias-free alternative for them to consider using instead. Leveraging technology to give people a tool to fight gender bias in the workplace, one word at a time.
