About the Work
In a year when chaos and confusion dominated the culture, Spotify found a way to deliver good news directly. 2020 Wrapped provided each of our 345 million users with a personalized recap of how they listened and grew in 2020. And for the first time ever, the experience was only available within Spotify itself, allowing users to explore and share their unique data stories right from their phones. With 50+ million total shares, 90+ million mobile users, and a corresponding Twitter topic that trended for over 4 days, we dominated the cultural conversation like never before.
It was hard to find any good news or reasons to celebrate on your phone in 2020. So we wanted this year's Wrapped to provide a bunch. We sought to infuse the experience with positivity, reflecting back to our community all the ways in which they discovered, explored, binge-listened, slow jammed, unwound, pumped up, and connected with content they genuinely loved, even in a year like 2020.
We highlighted data that demonstrated growth, celebrating our users' resilience in a difficult year. Users were also tested on their listening habits, asked to guess their top podcast, artist, and decade. To build connections and spark gratitude, we gave users the ability to thank their top creators right from the app. And as always, users received their very own Wrapped card to post with pride.
