Children with Diabetes Friends for Life Conference

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and does not have a cure, impacting adults and children alike. Dexcom improves diabetes management through our development of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, wearables that send real-time glucose readings to a user’s compatible display device. This data tells them not only their blood sugar level in the moment, but also where it’s headed, empowering more informed diabetes treatment decisions.

Even with the support of technology like ours, though, diabetes can take a great physical and emotional toll on those it inflicts. It can cause individuals to feel isolated and out of control of their day-to-day lives and the foreseeable future. For children who have been diagnosed, it can negatively define their formative years.

In support of the children we serve and the dreams they carry—but may hesitate to pursue, out of fear of their diabetes—Dexcom had a multi-dimensional presence at the Friends for Life conference in July 2022, which was put on by the nonprofit Children with Diabetes. We promoted our theme, ‘Dream Big with Dexcom,’ throughout our immersive booth experience and other ancillary elements, encouraging participants to share their dreams loudly and proudly.

Notable features included an LED video column that showcased photos of kids with animated illustration overlays, alluding to their aspirations; a large cloud installation that hovered at the top of the booth, playing up the whimsy of the ‘dream’ theme; a ‘Dream Drop,’ where attendees could write down their dreams, show them off in our 360-degree photo booth, and then drop them in a transparent bin with others; and meet-and-greet opportunities with two celebrity Dexcom Warriors (individuals who use Dexcom products). These elements, among others, were captured in photography and film for employee engagement and promotional use after the event.
