About the Work

AKQA and Fiat have developed eco:Drive. A motor and technology first for linking drivers with in-car diagnostics - improving fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions.

eco:Drive is designed to empower Fiat drivers worldwide. As the number of users grows, so does the online eco:Drive community, enabling drivers not only to access their own performance data, but also to see where they stand within the global eco:Drive family. The system will evolve and develop with feedback from each eco:Driver taking part. As numbers grow.

Why was this idea innovative?

ï All cars contain a wealth of data on driversí journeys and driving styles. But for the first time a car manufacturer has made this data available to, and useful for the driver and in doing so help them save money on fuel and reduce their impact on the environment.

ï The application can be used by drivers of Fiat cars already installed with the latest Blue&Meô technology, so an immediate impact was made when eco:Drive launched.

ï This is the first time a driver has been connected to their car like this, beginning a whole new way of interacting with their vehicle.

ï eco:Drive is one of the leading applications to be developed on Adobe AIR.

ï This is technology with a social purpose.

Results to date

ï The application can be downloaded to a driverís computer from a website (in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish).

ï The site is receiving more than 6,000 unique visitors per day ñ with 30% of visitors downloading the application.

ï The current CO2 savings of eco:Ville are 635,000kg ñ the equivalent of powering every eco:Ville driverís home computer for 1,375 hours (57 days).
