How do you launch Windows 8 in New York City? In order to attract influential New Yorkers, Mother constructed a walkable ?city? at Pier 59 Studios-constructing a massive, stylized version of Manhattan. It was an epic city of screens with colorful, iconic buildings, a sun that casts gorgeous shadows and projections that made the setting feel alive. Within the experience, embedded in the rooftops of the scaled buildings were interactive Windows 8 touch devices. Loaded onto those devices was curated content, specific to each neighborhood in Manhattan, brought together by influential residents. Mother partnered with New York organizations to create interesting programmed events, ranging from movie screenings to design talks. Mother wanted Microtropolis not to feel like they were visiting an ad, but an art opening. The communications needed to feel unique to the experience but also feel comfortable next to the recently refreshed Windows 8 brand and campaign.
