About the Work

Virgin Atlantic Airways required a redesign of the in-flight safety film to more closely align with the brand proposition of Flying in the face of Ordinary. The 2001 film had become dated and needed re-aligning with the brand ethos of adventure, confidence, glamour and quality. Viewed by every passenger, the safety video is the most important & high profile film shown on-board and must be inclusive, versatile and enduring. Alongside clearly communicating safety information, the film has to be entertaining, distinct and engage a diverse range of audiences. Using the apathy passengers feel towards safety messages as a plot device, we follow the journey of a passenger into a surprising & playful series of inclusive, genre-based film scenes to convey the necessary information and pique the interest of all ages onboard. To allow for longevity of the film, the stylistic approach combines traditional character animation with contemporary 3D techniques.
