About the Work

In the aggregate of her career, a woman loses almost $500,000 to the wage gap. Compile those losses across all working women, and it’s almost $30 trillion. To get young women fired up about this absurdity, the Equal Payback Project spoke to them in terms they could understand. Instead of doing a generic PSA, we attempted to crowdfund the wage gap. The project kicked off with a Youtube video starring Sarah Silverman getting a sex change to avoid the wage gap. It drove to our crowdfunding site, equalpaybackproject.com, which had a $29,811,746,430,000 fundraising goal - the largest in history. All proceeds went to the National Women’s Law Center, the leading non-profit fighting for equal pay in America. With zero paid media, the Equal Payback Project raised almost $100,000 for the NWLC and made over 700 million impressions.
