About the Work

Illiteracy is proven to cause 8 of the top 10 problems facing the world, yet only ranks 18th itself. The Alphabet of Illiteracy campaign was made to show people the issues illiteracy was proven the fuel. Its look and tone were designed to clash the harsh realities of illiteracy with memories of learning to read and write for the first time. Users could explore the link, and academic research, between illiteracy and each issue on our website. Each letter was also associated with one of Project Literacy's charity partners who ran literacy programs on the ground fighting that issue. Users could then donate or volunteer with individual charities. As a result of this campaign Project Literacy has been asked to join the UNESCO panel on global illiteracy.
