About the Work
Watch_Dogs 2 plunges us into a story that's very close to home: a fight against Sillicon Valley corporations accused of violating the privacy rights of citizens.Two months before the game's release, our challenge was to get gamers excited about this storyline. To do so, we turned fiction into reality. Using Twitter, Periscope and Reddit, we created a true Alternate Reality Game where players had to solve a series of clues inspired by hacker culture in an effort to prevent a tech company from establishing itself in Canada and threatening the privacy of our citizens. Players quickly rallied together to decrypt the clues, which eventually led them to a secret website hidden within the website of this fictional tech company. In just a few days, this site became the digital HQ for the first community of hackers in Watch_Dogs 2.
