About the Work
Cyberbullying is becoming one of society’s gravest problems, affecting millions of victims globally. Anti-bullying efforts to date have focused on post-incident reporting. But there’s been nothing to protect children from abuse happening to begin with, and leading social media platforms have failed to introduce effective measures to combat abusive behaviour. We set out to find an innovative way to effect real change online – tackling online bullying behaviour before it happens. So we created Reword, a real-time alert for online bullying. Integrating with social and messaging platforms, Reword is an educational tool that helps develop young people’s moral compass when they first become active on social media. It strikes through hurtful language, prompting users to reconsider their words before hitting send. Reword not only protects potential victims, but also stops children from becoming bullies themselves.
