About the Work

Nedbank is a proud supporter of sport in South Africa. They sponsor the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the Nedbank Cup (soccer) and the Green Mile at the Comrades Marathon. They believe that sport is nothing without the support of fans – the true heroes of the game. When Nedbank heard the story of Sandile Mbili, a 17-year-old double amputee who was given the gift of prosthetic legs, they knew how they could help him learn to walk again – through the support of South Africans all over the country. They asked people to send in tweets of encouragement that were used to create a physical twitter track that Sandile could use during rehab. It helped so much that within six months, Sandile was running. He went from being bound to a wheelchair to running the Nedbank Green Mile at the Comrades Marathon.
