About the Work
In 2017, America was a divided nation. The social platforms designed to bring people together were actually making things worse - showing us content from like-minded individuals and driving an even greater wedge between people with different perspectives. A recent study found that only 5% of us see social media posts that differ greatly from our world view. The KIND Foundation exists to foster kinder, more empathetic communities, so we had to step in. KIND created Pop Your Bubble, a Facebook app that enables users to disrupt their newsfeeds by following people from different parts of the country, from different walks of life, and with different perspectives. Unlike most algorithms that identify and bring you more of the things you "like", this app acts as an "anti-algorithm", analyzing your feeds and identifying people most different from you - disrupting the homogeneity of your newsfeed with different people and perspectives.
